Take The Plunge!

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Matthew 6:21 (NIV)

We are constantly assailed with tempting offers.  We are induced to believe that this or that product will benefit us.  Indeed, we need the product!  The message indicates that if we are living a truly modern lifestyle then we really must purchase this commodity.

The voice of Jesus cuts across the generations, preserved in Matthew 6:19-20, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven…” Note in verse 20, “treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.”

These are the treasures of old, ancient riches that have been around longer than the world itself. One of these treasures is wisdom, which is given a voice in Proverbs 8:22-23, “The Lord brought me forth as the first of his works, before his deeds of old; I was formed long ages ago, at the very beginning, when the world came to be.”  There is no product available that can make one wise. No amount of money can turn a fool into a sage. In fact, history is full of foolish people who would have been much better off without their wealth!

Yet, there is another treasure even greater than wisdom; a treasure so wonderful that wisdom pales into insignificance by comparison, and that is Love. If I can’t buy wisdom, then perhaps I can buy the services of a wise man. But, as the Beatles sang, “money can’t buy me love”. Wise words remain wise, even when sold. But when love is bought, it is destroyed.

“God is love” declared the Apostle John (1 John 4:16). The history of love goes back far beyond the point of creation, and even before the universe began. As Jesus disclosed about his Father – and our Father – “you loved me before the creation of the world” (John 17:24). Love has a track history older than time itself.

Many people today feel that the route to happiness lies in money. The more you have, the happier you will be. However, the greatest treasure, that of love, is actually free! Why not take the chance to invest? You’ll find that this treasure will never tarnish, fade or rust away. Why not take the plunge and invest today?

Prayer
Please, Holy Father, help us all to develop your love and kindness. We ask this in Jesus’ precious name.
Amen

A great article John about Love being the principle thing. It’s good to be reminded of this basic fact in our ever busy world. Thanks for presenting the case clearly and simply.

Got something to say?
