The Midas Touch

“His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 3:10  (NIV)

I shot up at 4:00 am with the idea for this Day by Day, marveling at how ideas come out of nowhere, my little brain goes into overdrive, and I can’t wait to get started while the world snores on.

It’s like a Midas Touch, where God turns our meagre talents into gold. I depend on him for just that, though, to somehow take what’s tucked away in my head and turn it into something useful, because isn’t that the miracle that “the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms” need to see?

The demonic world has to watch average, vastly inferior humans turning out wonderful stuff that builds people up, encourages them, enlightens them, and makes them laugh with understanding. Yet here Satan is, beautiful, clever, and smart as a whip, but what comes out of his head is nasty, divisive, deceptive and disheartening.

So “through the church” now, “the manifold wisdom of God” (KJV) is being “made known” to Satan, as he watches how God “is able to do immeasurably more than all we (humans) ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us” (verse 20). Look what God by his power can produce. He can take someone who isn’t beautiful, isn’t clever and isn’t the wisest in the world, and God gives them his wisdom, his insight, his powers of observation, his understanding of the human mind, his creativity, and his ability to use it all to bring light, love and laughter to others.

It must be excruciatingly painful for the rebels in the heavenly realms, like it is for me watching my six year old grandchild whistling through the commands on her Ipad, while I’m still trying to find the On button. Well, the demonic world hasn’t found the On button yet either, but through the church they’re learning where it is, as God gives his people the Midas Touch that they don’t have.

Prayer
Thank you, Father, that the gifts you give us are not only meant for each other, but also for the angelic world to grasp what they missed.
Amen
