Be Thankful

“And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts…And always be thankful.”
Colossians 3:15 (NLT)

We can do nothing through our own efforts to be saved—we can only accept God’s gift of salvation, and so, as 1 Corinthians 15:57 tells us, “But thank God!  He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.”  We are not saved because we deserve it, but God chose us and freely gives us salvation.  Nothing can compare with the great price Jesus paid for us.

Paul expresses his thankfulness for the brethren at Thessalonica in 2 Thessalonians 2:13, “…we can’t but thank God for you, dear brothers and sisters loved by the Lord.  And he tells the Philippians, “Don’t worry about anything, instead pray about everything.  Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done.  Then you will experience God’s peace which exceeds anything we can understand.” (Philippians 4:6-7) We read in Colossians 3:15, “And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts.  For as members of one body you are called to live in peace.  And always be thankful.”

Verse 16 goes on to say, “Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.” Thankfulness is not just expressed in words.  It is also expressed by what we do—by giving, helping others, kindness, and patience. Colossians 3, verse 17 says, “And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.” (verse 17)

Prayer
Father in Heaven, you have given us everything we need and much more.  We are especially grateful that we have your Word which tells us everything we need to know about how you want us to live.  Thank you so much.
Amen
