Being Thankful for Blessings

“Whatever happens, always be thankful.  This is how God wants you to live in Christ Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 5:18 (Easy-to-Read Version)

We have all heard the tune ‘Count Your Blessings, Name them one by one.’  There are so many things we can be thankful for.  In this country we have warm homes, we have good friends and neighbours, and most of us can run a car.  We enjoy the spring flowers, which I can see from my window as I watch the birds eating my crumbs. Even crumbs can be a blessing and evidence of blessings!

Many of us are blessed with children and grandchildren.  There is such joy in seeing your first grandchild and holding him or her as their little fingers grip yours.  We have joy, and we laugh, when grandchildren say funny things to you.  Even in our older years we can be blessed in giving help and wisdom to the young.

But most of all, having God in our lives is the greatest blessing.  When we are lonely he is always there for us.  We can talk to him in peace and safety, while in many areas of the world Christians live in fear.  Luke 6:28 says to bless those who curse you – we can be a blessing to others and even their curses can be a blessing to us as it teaches us to count our blessings!

Let’s count our blessings each day.

Father, thank you for our life each day and for all your blessings, small and great.
