Oh, Holy One Of Blessing

“Everything comes from Him; Everything happens through Him; Everything ends up in Him. Always glory! Always praise! Yes. Yes. Yes.”
Romans 11:36 (MSG)

There is a Jewish formula prayer designed to help you focus on God’s blessings.
It goes like this: “Oh, Holy One of Blessing, Your presence fills creation. Thank you……”

You’re supposed to fill in the blank.
For instance, “Oh, Holy One of Blessing, Your presence fills creation. Thank you for this day.”

“Oh, Holy One of Blessing, your presence fills creation. Thank you for my eyes to see.”

“Oh, Holy One of Blessing, Your presence fills creation. Thank you for my precious children.”

“Oh, Holy One of Blessing, Your presence fills creation. Thank you for my car to drive.”

In part, the prayer is meant to remind us that even simple things come from God:

“Oh Holy One of Blessing, your presence fills creation. Thank you for this cup of water.”

It’s a reminder that all things come from God, come through God, and return to God. (Romans 11:36)

There’s even a variation of this prayer to use when something seemingly bad happens.
When it appears something couldn’t possibly be a blessing – like a car accident or a dying child, we’re to greet it as a blessing and say: “Oh, Holy One of Blessing, Your presence fills creation. It is not up to me to judge.”

This is a good reminder that God interprets the facts, not us.

Things are as God says, not as we say; and often the heartache that we can’t initially see as a blessing is the very thing He is using to crowd us closer to Him.

What simple blessings has God given you today?
Have you told Him thanks?
Does something in your life appear to be a curse?
Try greeting it as a blessing, and see what God reveals in His time.

Prayer
Oh, Holy One of Blessing, Your presence fills creation. Thank you that we can pray to you about even the simple things in life, and by bringing them to you we are brought closer to your likeness.
Amen
