“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:”
Philippians 1:6 (KJV)

If a balloon had feelings, would it appreciate being pulled in all directions prior to having air blown into it?
Would it enjoy having air blown into it and being stretched?
Would it be grateful when the blower took a breath and it got to rest a while and get used to its new shape?
Would it wonder why the blower had then begun again stretching it etc. beyond what felt like its ability to cope?
Would it again sigh with relief when the blower stopped to take a breath?
When the blower began again, would it wonder how many more times, as surely this time it really would burst?
But when the blower had finished the task of stretching  the balloon to its full potential, would it not then truly appreciate the hardship it had been through as it now floated around, free to go wherever the wind took it, showing it sights it could never have dreamt possible beforehand?

We are that balloon, Jesus is the blower, blowing us full of God’s Spirit so that when we have reached our full potential, whatever shape, colour or size that may be, we will have the freedom to go wherever God’s Spirit takes us, showing us things we can’t imagine or ever dream possible while in this lifetime, because they aren’t possible in this lifetime.  Yes, we suffer as we’re pulled and stretched to what seems like breaking point, but Jesus is in control of the situation, knowing what he is doing and what our individual potential is.

And one day we will truly appreciate it, if not so much during this lifetime.

Dear Father, thank you for the work you are having done within us through Jesus. Thank you that he knows what he is doing and that we can trust him.  We look forward very much to seeing the completed end result in both ourselves and others.  What a glorious and wonderful result it will be with so many different shapes, colours and sizes – more wonderful than any balloon filled party room. Thank you in Jesus’ name.

Nice analogy Ruth of a balloon and the Holy Spirit filling ‘our balloon’, enabling us to soar like an eagle and see the big picture of life that God intended for us. Truly the best has yet to come.

Got something to say?
