“I’ve Got A Balloon”

“The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of God’s people, went up before God from the angel’s hand.”
Revelation 8:4 (NIV)

As a frequent customer of McDonald’s, I have seen dozens of children playing with or carrying out one of the many balloons given to the customers’ children. The only child I can really remember, though, is one sweet little girl of about four years old with fair hair, holding her mother’s hand.  She had a green balloon floating three feet above her head while she held the string with her free hand. She looked at me and decided I needed to know what she had, so she said, informing me: “I’ve got a balloon!”  I smiled and said, “Yes, you have!” This was so obvious to me, as I’d seen her coming towards me.

I was delighted by her sweet manner and later thought: God knows what we need without us saying it, but he likes us to tell him what is happening in our lives even though he already knows. Matthew 6:8 tells us “your Father knows what you  need before you ask him.”  But He likes us to ask him and thank him too.

Our prayers go up like sweet incense to God. Let’s give him something to smile about!

Dear God, what a privilege it is to carry everything to you in prayer.
