Call in the Bomb Squad

“Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:”
Ephesians 4:31 (KJV)

Anger is like an unexploded bomb. We need to handle it carefully otherwise it might explode. Think how carefully the bomb squad are when dealing with unexploded devices. We need to act in a similar fashion whether the anger is our own or someone else’s. We neither want innocent bystanders getting hurt, nor do we want the enemy to have opportunity to detonate the device.

It needs dealing with away from as many people as possible, and it needs dealing with by as few people as possible so that if something goes wrong as few people as possible get hurt. When we feel our anger building we need to walk away, taking it to God in prayer, asking him to help us with getting things into perspective, with forgiveness, with patience, with his love. It gives us time also to count to ten… or a hundred before returning, if that is wise.

When handling other people’s anger, if possible, we need to encourage them to walk away to somewhere quiet so that we can talk the issue through with them but without affecting others. Not easy ~ but then God has no problem with the difficult situations in life and will help in such matters when appealed to even when our prayers are quick, short and to the point.

We can all be peacemakers even if it is only by handling our own anger appropriately, instead of giving our deadly enemy opportunity to detonate such a lethal weapon.

Dear Father, we know your desire is for us to live in harmony with each other, but our human nature gets in the way so frequently. Please help us to watch for our anger building and to defuse it as quickly as possible. Also may we be effective in helping others to defuse their anger, and all this away from innocent people. Thank You.
