I Sing Because…

“Come, let’s shout praises to God, raise the roof for the Rock who saved us! Let’s march into his presence singing praises, lifting the rafters with our hymns!”
Psalm 95:1-2 (MSG)

“I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I‘m free.” These are the words to a well-known hymn.

The reason why I always have a song in my heart and on my lips is because of my faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God.  God is our Father and we are his children joining a long procession of believers and those yet to be saved. Today, we share sweet fellowship together with the household of faith, the Church of God.

We are all created by God and he wants us in his family.  Unfortunately, not all realise and accept this truth. We become a part of the family when we are born again of water and spirit, as Jesus explained to Nicodemus. This gift and privilege is available to all humanity so we can partake in the divine nature.

The Apostle Paul encourages us, “Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Ephesians 5:18-20 NIV)

So, because of my tendency to forget or be distracted, I need to remind myself constantly of the wonderful truths in God. Singing is one way that comes naturally to me to preach the Gospel to myself and others. Music has a way of reaching deep within us, affecting our mind and emotions.  “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:16-17 NIV)

Today and everyday, join me and the heavenly choir in singing praises to God and giving him thanks for what he does for his beloved children.

Dear Father, thank you for revealing yourself to us so we can praise you. Help us to use our voices daily to bring glory to you. In Jesus’ name.
