“Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.”
James 1:19 (NLT)

God listens to us all the time and He says “Oh, that my people would listen to me” in Psalm 81:13.  Samuel was one that did, he said, “Speak, your servant is listening” (1 Samuel 3:10).   And David knew God heard him when he called (Psalm 4:3).

“Faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ” (Romans 10:17).

Jesus tells us in Luke 8:18, “…pay attention to how you hear.  To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given.  But for those who are not listening, even what they think they understand will be taken away from them.”  Only by listening to God’s assurance can we live lives without fear because He has said, “I will never leave you” (Hebrews 13:5-6 NKJV).  So don’t become dull of hearing (Hebrews 5:11 NKJV).

Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life” (John 5:24).

So remember to listen.  “Those who control their tongue will have a long life; opening your mouth can ruin everything” (Proverbs 13:3).  “But don’t just listen to God’s word.  You must do what it says. Otherwise you are only fooling yourselves.  For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror.  You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then  God will bless you for doing it” (James 1:22-25).

Thank you, Father in Heaven, for speaking to us and telling us clearly how we should live.  Please help us to always listen carefully to everything you say with a determination to do what you tell us.
