Why The Gospel Travels

“In the Messiah, in Christ, God leads us from place to place in one perpetual victory parade. Through us, he brings knowledge of Christ. Everywhere we go, people breathe in the exquisite fragrance.”
2 Corinthians 2:14 (MSG)

Have you ever wondered why salmon swim up rivers and waterfalls to spawn?  Or  migrating birds travel great distances to lay their eggs and then against all the odds fly back home?  Similarly, have you ever wondered why the Gospel travels as it has these past 2000 years?

Well, like the salmon and the birds, the gospel travels to bring new life. A new creation for humanity to become children of God, born from above.  Each of these have their starting point in God, the Creator of everything.

The Gospel travels because God so loves us and gave His only begotten Son. The message traveled from heaven to earth.  Jesus Christ began his ministry by announcing, “The time promised by God has come at last!…The Kingdom of God is near! Repent of your sins and believe the Good News!” (Mark 1:15 NLT).

Ever since that time, He has been calling men and women out of this world to join Him on an incredible journey, and has given us a mission as we go. We know that we can’t save others but, with the help of the Holy Spirit, we can tell them that Jesus can. Yes, we are travelers with the message of life and hope. We share with all, that they can be delivered out of this present evil world and escape condemnation.

As the Apostle Paul says, “Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God. But this fragrance is perceived differently by those who are being saved and by those who are perishing. To those who are perishing, we are a dreadful smell of death and doom. But to those who are being saved, we are a life-giving perfume. And who is adequate for such a task as this?” (2 Corinthians 2:15-16 NLT).

It is a message of love through Jesus.  His saving grace in our lives causes us to be filled with thanksgiving for what our Saviour has done. In turn, we have a desire to reach out to those who are dead (as we were), to bring the light of the Gospel to those God brings across our path. We remember that He is the way and the life.

So we travel with the Gospel. Our feet have been fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. We have beautiful feet for traveling with the Good News. (Romans 10:15 NLT) Let’s remember then, we travel as Ambassadors of Christ, Heralds of the Gospel and Proclaimers of the love of God in Jesus Christ as Saviour of the world. (2 Corinthians 5:18-20 NLT)

Loving Father, thank you for calling us to travel with the Gospel to a needy world. Please give us the strength we need for the journey.
