Why Jesus Drives My Car

“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 2:5 (NIV)

I’ll begin by asking you a question; “What would Jesus do?”

This question has become something of a cliché among believers. But have you ever given this question any serious thought as you go about your everyday tasks? Tasks like eating, drinking, working, shopping and driving.

Take something as ordinary as driving a car. Now you may say, “What does being a Christian have to do with that?”  Well, Christianity isn’t a weekend religion where you are pious on the Sabbath and secular for the rest of the week. It is about allowing Jesus to actively work in you and through you every waking hour of every day and in every activity. It is a way of life.

That’s why Jesus drives my car. Christ living through me is expressed when I let a driver emerge from a junction, even though I want to have right of way. He lives in me when I don’t get angry when a space invader cuts into the lane right in front of me.  He lives through me when I give one of my fellow Christians or a work colleague a lift home, even if it’s out of my way.

When we surrender all to Jesus as Lord, we must give everything to him. Our lives and everything we have should be for His use and employed in His service. Including that nice car you drive.

As Paul states in Philippians 2:5, New King James Version, “Let this mind be in you, which is yours in Christ Jesus.”  Believers, next time you get in the driver’s seat, think about how your driving can best reflect the love of God through the Lord Jesus Christ. Who knows what impression your example may leave on another driver. Or your unsaved passengers.

Drive safely, in the name of Jesus!

Thank you, Father, for your concern for every area of my life.  Please be with us as we drive and help us make the most of this blessing. In Jesus’ name.
