Life-An Adventure With God!

“For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ appears He is our Life then you also will appear with Him in glory.”
Colossians 3: 3-4 (Weymouth)

This morning I spoke to a young father who was drinking coffee and had his two young children with him.  He had taken the day off because of the snow and because of the fact that he was never going to make it into central London to his workplace. His oldest child was 7 years old and just couldn’t contain himself—his school was closed and he and his younger sister had their dad all to themselves.  They were going to the park tobogganing! I have to say they were wide-eyed and excited at the prospect of this great adventure in the snow with their father!

I asked the boy about his sled and how fast it could go travelling downhill in the snow.  I also asked if he had brought a camera to record the great adventure, and he had!  Both these children were champing at the bit to get out of this coffee place and into the snow. Young children as you probably know are not in the least embarrassed when they show their excitement; their emotions are worn on their sleeves.

I sometimes wonder if we are as excited about this great Spirit-led adventure we are having with our Father and elder Brother at this point in time, and how much we look forward to the exhilarating things that we will experience in the future.  Actually, each day is an adventure with God!

Let me share with you something that says it all, by our friend Anon:
“When I met Christ, it seemed as though life was rather like a bike ride, but it was a tandem bike. And I noticed that Christ was on the back helping me pedal. I don’t know just when it was that he suggested that we change places, but life has not been the same since. When I was in control I knew the way; it was rather boring, but predictable. It was the shortest distance between two points. But when he took the lead, he knew delightful long cuts, up mountains, and through rocky places at breakneck speed. It was all I could do to hang on! Even though it seemed like madness, he said “Pedal!” I didn’t trust him at first, in control of my life, I thought he’d wreck it; but he knows bike secrets—knows how to make it bend to take sharp corners, jump to clear high rocks, and fly to shorten scary passages. And I’m learning to shut up and pedal in the strangest places, and I’m beginning to enjoy the cool breeze on my face with my delightful, constant companion, Jesus. And when I’m sure I just can’t do any more, he just smiles and says, “Pedal!”

Are we all enjoying this spirit of adventure as it unfolds each day?

Lord, help us to be aware of this incredible journey that you are taking us on and enter in to the spirit of it every waking hour.
