Bible Study

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Psalm 119:105 (NKJV)

We find instruction in 2 Timothy 2:15 that tells us in our Bible study to be like a workman ‘rightly dividing’ or using the word of truth.

There are two scriptures that must always be born in mind when approaching the Word of God.  The first is 2 Timothy 3:16, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”  So the first point to always remember is that scripture is, ‘God breathed’, or by divine inspiration.

The second point is also vital.  We find in Matthew 4:4, “ But He answered and said, ‘It is written, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”’” Here, we are being instructed to live by every word of God.  It is a simple instruction and an important one, and is why  the preservation of scripture is so important to God.

A great many books have been written over the centuries about the veracity of the Bible.  It is helpful to know the difference between a translation and a paraphrase version of the Bible.  For example, the King James version of the Bible is a translation and the Living Bible is a paraphrase.  Also, it is helpful when studying your bible to use several translations of the same verse or chapter.  This way you may well have one or two dozen scholars aiding your understanding.

If God instructs us to live by His every word, then it is God’s responsibility to preserve it for us correctly in order that we may do that.  Unless God fulfils His responsibility with His word, we cannot fulfil ours.

Father in Heaven, as we seek to study your Word, the Bible, guide us in our use of the different translations and paraphrases so that we can ‘rightly divide’ or use the truth and instruction preserved for us there in our lives.

The final countdown.anyone who has seen this film .A whole U.S aircraft carrier went back through a time portal to 1941 at Pearl Harbour .just before japan bombed it.But no matter how hard they tried they could not change events that had already happened.this is a bit like events we have had in the past.we may regret mistakes we have made.and wish we could go back and change it.But we know we cannot. No matter how hard you try,you cannot change the past.Rather look ahead to the future, your future. The present and future you can change, not the past.

Got something to say?
