Prayer Song

“These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.”
Acts 1:14 (KJV)

Have you ever wondered what our prayers sound like to God?  Prayer is like a never ending song with beautiful melodies which rise and fall according to the various parts. As people join, the melody changes as it does when people step down for a while. It is like a huge choir singing a song which has various parts: they each sing their own line of music, and when they all come together it makes for a rich sounding song. And also each person may sing their part for a while and then be gone for another while before joining back in again. And so prayer does the same.

There are many people praying, and according to what each person is praying about, it is like another layer of the melody. It may be joyful, thankful, sorrowful, or painful, but the various sounds all blend into a rich sounding hymn going up to Heaven.

The voices come in and out as people wake and sleep, or when things come to their mind, and so voices are coming in and going out of the worldwide choir. The voices continue to vary even when people sleep in death as others are then joining the choir.

The hymn is an ongoing song, and one in which we can all join. We can even change parts whenever we wish according to our circumstances. The only out-of-tune voice is the one which is not from the heart. So, if you have a heart which is full, start singing whatever the part you are joining.

Dear Father, thank you for the gift of our voices and the gift of prayer. It is wonderful that anyone can join in the worldwide choir of voices whatever our age or circumstances. Please give us hearts which are of flesh not of stone– ones which are full of your love. Thank you in Jesus’ Name.
