Faith Without Works Is Dead

Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”
James 2:17 (NKJV)

The scripture above and the following scripture complement each other:  “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

In the opening scripture, James is not talking about our own works but works of the Spirit!  And the letter to the Ephesians tells us that we are not saved by our own faith or our own good works, but by the faith that is given to us by God!

Jesus leads and directs us through the power of the Holy Spirit.  He is preparing us for eternity and we depend completely on Him to finish the work! When Jesus is living His life through us the works (or fruits) of the Spirit will be manifested in our lives.  As it says in Matthew 7:20, “Therefore by their fruits you will know them.”

Father God, help us to completely surrender our lives to Jesus so that He can live His life through us.
