“I will meditate in Your Precepts and I will regard Your paths.”
Psalm 119:15 (LITV)

Having lived with tinnitus (any noises in the ear, not necessarily ringing) for as far back as I can remember, I have learnt to focus out of the sounds in my ears by focusing on listening to other sounds which I do want to hear such as people, music, birdsong etc.

In this life there are many noises assaulting our ears from the shouting adverts to noisy neighbours, from harsh raucous head-ache producing ‘music’ to foul-mouthed programmes and people, and so the list goes on and on.

We can, though, with some practice tune out of those assaulting noises and tune into the pleasant, the melodic sounds of God’s love and His ways. We have to practise, as I know full well, at focusing on listening to God through reading the Bible, listening for Him speaking through sermons and even listening when we pray, which is time for a two-way conversation.

We can also enjoy the good and the pleasant things in this world because there is pleasant music, there is birdsong, there is good conversation with family and friends. That list also can go on and on.

Dear Father, thank You for speaking amid the noise and bustle of this world. Please help each one of us to tune into You and Your wavelength–for Your words recorded in the Bible and those spoken to us by Jesus.  We thank You in His Name.
