“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.”
Luke15:20 (NIV)

I take this Parable of the Lost Son as a beautifully simple way to approach forgiveness. The father obviously had a forgiving heart toward his son, long before the son acknowledged the hurt he had caused.

We also can have a forgiving attitude toward those who have hurt us, even though they may be unavailable or unwilling to receive it.

It is God’s grace that enables us to have this forgiving attitude, and it is God’s grace that forgives us all our sins.  Colossians 2:13 (CEV), tells us, “You were dead, because you were sinful…But God let Christ make you alive, when he forgave all your sins.”

Father, thank you for your loving forgiveness. Please help me to respond with a forgiving attitude toward others.  In Jesus’ name.
