Victory Over Death

“Through you we push back our enemies; Through your name we trample our foes.”
Psalm 44:5 (NIV)

The Psalmist was speaking of God supporting the armies of the nation of Israel and giving them victory. He recognised that his own human power was not enough and that any victory was solely by God’s hand (see verses 6 & 7).

For us, the victory we need is not over an army, but over death, and that cannot be achieved by our own strength. Just as in the Psalm, we need God to give us the victory.  I Corinthians 15:26 tells us that the last enemy is death, conquered by Jesus for us, but even though Jesus tasted death it was impossible for it to keep its hold on him.

Revelation 21:4 shows a great future for mankind. With death destroyed, a new world will be established, as God lives with us. In this new world there will be no more mourning and tears. This is all because God has defeated our last enemy, death.

Father, we thank you so much that death has been defeated by your name, and that we can look forward to a great future.
