“As it is written:  ‘What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived’—the things God has prepared for those who love him.”
1 Corinthians 2:9 (NIV)

The table was laid in the Executive Lounge.  Our guests were important and the Chief Exec was nervous.  More guests had come than expected—would the food go round?  He murmured to the Production team present ‘FHB!’  I had never heard the phrase before, and I asked my colleague what it meant.  I was informed that it was an acronym for ‘family hold back!’  Good manners prevailed and our guests were well fed while the staff took a very long time over a couple of crisps!

The phrase implies not enough to go round—a shortage of supplies.  Is it not wonderful that our divine family have not issued that edict?  God has never held back in His love for us.  Undeservedly, we have been given God’s most precious Son (John  3:16). God did not hesitate, and neither did His Son.  God’s love has never been in short supply.  “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

We are invited to the greatest dinner of all times.  The venue will be unsurpassed, the food quite literally out of this world, the music will be heavenly, the guests apparel exquisite and the company truly ‘divine’.  We are going to the feast where abundance is the key word.  An abundance of life—forever (John 10:10).  There will be a profusion of all that is good for us.  Love will permeate the entire occasion.  In Revelation 19:9 the apostle John tells us those who will be present will be blessed indeed.  “Then the angel said to me, ‘Write: “Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!”’ And he added, ‘These are the true words of God.’”

We cannot begin to comprehend the excitement around God’s throne as this feast is prepared for us.  Imagine the angels joyfully saying, “Add another to the invitation list!” As we see in Luke 15:10, “In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”  We are honoured guests at the event of all time and the Host is ready to welcome us with open arms.  See you there!

One thing is certain—the angels have never heard the expression ‘FHB’!

Father, we are so indebted to you for everything that is wonderful in our lives, including our future with you.  Thank you so much for the invitation to the wedding supper of the Lamb.
