Authorised Personnel Only

“For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16 (NLT)

I often see the sign above (Authorised Personnel Only) in airports, doctor’s surgeries, supermarkets and other public buildings. I don’t know about you, but it makes me curious and I begin to look for a door with a sign that reads:  “Unauthorised Personnel Only”—but of course, that sign doesn’t exist!  So the message is: you need to have authority to enter here, Friend! And I guess that’s fair enough, and yet it leaves us on the outside wondering, “What must I do to qualify?”

Surprise, surprise, there is a door where anyone is authorised to enter, where no-one is left on the outside wondering and curious.  Jesus said, “I am the Door; anyone who enters in through Me will be saved (will live).  He will come in and he will go out [freely], and will find pasture.” (John 10:9 Amplified).

Notice:  Anyone—this Door can be freely used by all who want to enter, there is no word “Only” on it—but instead, “Everyone!”  Everyone is qualified to enter as Jesus said in the above scripture—no exams, no conditions, and not one person is locked out, because everyone has been forgiven by his sacrifice and is fully authorised to enter!

“But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the authority (power, privilege, right) to become the children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in and rely on) His name.” (John 1:12 Amplified). As you can see, we receive this authority as a gift by belonging to Christ, and as He said, “We can come and go freely.” That means, no-one can refuse us entry, no-one can inform us, “Sorry, you can’t go in there!”

Just to underline the freedom every human being has to enter in through this Door, let’s look at the invitation Jesus extended in Matthew 11:28 (Amplified), “Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls].”

You definitely have authority to enter in here, Friend! All we have to do is accept this treasure of grace that God has given freely – his Son – who is the Door and we can just…come on in!

Lord, thank you for becoming ‘The Door’ by which we all can enter into our Father’s presence and receive the rest you have promised.
