Self-Improvement & Dependence

“I am the vine you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without me you can do nothing.”
John 15:5 (NKJV)

True self-improvement does not come through self-effort; it comes from dependence upon God—from faith in Him. He allows us to make an effort, but it must be effort made while depending on Him, not effort apart from Him!

When we repent of our sins and accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, he then lives in us through the Power of the Holy Spirit. He is there to help, support and to encourage us.

Romans 8:26 says that the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. He knows all about our hopes, concerns and our weaknesses, and He wants us to pass them over to Him so that He can give us wisdom in every area of our life.

The Holy Spirit will not shout at us, he will whisper in a still small voice and we need to be still and listen carefully as he speaks to us through his Word and through the Spirit that lives within us.

As Jesus said in John 15:1, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.” Verse 4 says, “No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine.  Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.” We can only grow in our Spiritual lives when we are connected to the true vine, Jesus Christ!

Thank you for sending Jesus to pay the price of our sins, Heavenly Father, and give us the strength we need to live a life that is pleasing to you.
