Have You Got The ‘X-Factor’?

“For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding ‘Yes’! and through Christ our ‘Amen’ (which means ‘Yes’) ascends to God for His glory.”
2 Corinthians 1:20 (NLT)

Each year Britain’s X Factor TV programme enthralls millions as they watch from week to week to see thousands of wannabe performers trying to convince three celebrity judges that they can be the next big singing sensation. The competition is open to all age groups—anyone can apply whether they can actually sing or not. For the majority it’s an opportunity for their three minutes of fame before the judges and the worldwide audience.

One of the more endearing aspects is seeing some very unlikely candidate surprise everyone by demonstrating their ability to sing, when by all appearances it looks as if they couldn’t sing to save their lives. At moments like this the audience responds by rapturously applauding and giving the unlikely candidate a standing ovation. Everyone loves to see the underdog come out on top. Unfortunately, not everyone can sing, and most have to walk off the stage having received three no’s from the judges. Many are broken-hearted that they were not chosen for the next stage of the competition.

We can draw a wonderful spiritual parallel from the show with our human condition. In God’s eyes we can all have the X-factor, regardless of our talents and despite the fact that we may feel like an unlikely candidate worthy of fame and fortune. With God, each and every one of us has the X factor. Those who accept God’s call to believe in His Son will not be put to shame (Psalm 25:3). By accepting Jesus Christ as our Saviour we receive three resounding Yes’s from the heavenly Judge—God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit—and not only that, but the audience of heavenly angels gives us rapturous applause (Luke 15:10).

When we accept Jesus’ sacrifice in place of our sins and lawless acts, God gives to us His Holy Spirit, which becomes our guarantee of salvation and of the greatest reward available to anyone—eternal life (John 3:15; 2 Corinthians 1:22; 2 Corinthians 5; Ephesians 1:14). This is much better than a million pound record deal and a short lived career in the music industry. Instantly we become famous in God’s eyes and the heavenly host of angels, and we will share in unbelievable rewards reserved for us in heaven (Revelation 22:12).

So why not sign up now and accept the invitation to believe in Jesus Christ as your Saviour and stand proudly before the throne of Grace (Hebrews 4:16)? Join in the next stage of the great adventure that is our temporal life, and live confidently: You have the X-factor because of your faith in Jesus Christ.

Heavenly Father, please accept me as a candidate to believe in Your Son Jesus and help me accept that in Your eyes I am of tremendous value to you, and that you have blessings and rewards stored for me in heaven.
