Speak Words Of Life
“For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.”
James 3:2 (NKJV)
I heard a wonderful story recently about little five year old John, who was very exited when he heard that he was going to have a baby sister—he would go up to his mothers stomach every day and sing, ‘You are my sunshine my only sunshine’, to his baby sister.
The time came for his mother to go into hospital to give birth, but complications set in and the baby was born very seriously ill. The doctors told them that they did not expect the little girl to live through the night.
The mother decided to take John into intensive care to see his baby sister, even though this was against the rules because she thought that he may not see her alive. When John saw his sister he was shocked to see all the tubes going into her little body. He got up close to her and sang, ‘You are my sunshine my only sunshine, please don’t take my sunshine away’. The nurse saw him and said, “Please take the boy out—children are not allowed in the intensive care unit.” But she quickly changed her mind when she noticed that the baby’s very rapid heart-beat had slowed down to normal. She said, “KEEP ON SINGING!”
A remarkable thing happened and a few days later his little sister went home fully recovered.
There is power in our words—let us use that power to speak words of life to all that we meet!
Father, God, please help us to realise the importance of our words and how they can effect others.
