God Rejoices Over Us

…as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice over you.
Isaiah 62:5 (NIV UK)

A friend of mine has set the ring tone on his mobile phone so that the “Hallelujah Chorus” plays whenever his wife calls him. He is a brave man indeed!

Wedding days are very special. I remember the excitement of mine, and how thrilled I was to see my beautiful bride walking down the aisle to me. The scripture above compares God’s joy in receiving us, to the rejoicing of a bridegroom over his wife to be. God is emotionally committed to us, and is thrilled at the prospect of sharing his life with us.

Perhaps today, as we watch the Royal Wedding and get into the spirit of it all, we can also rejoice that God desires to live his life with us for eternity. His relationship with us is full of joy and hope.

Let’s wish Prince William and Kate Middleton, as well as all recent and about-to-be newly weds, a romantic, happy and God-filled life and marriage.

“Be joyful always,” says 1 Thessalonians 5:16.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the joy of knowing your Son, Jesus Christ, and help that joy comfort me through the difficult times in life.
