The Marriage Institution

“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.  Then God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply’…”
Genesis 1:27-28 (NKJV)

“‘This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.’  Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” (Genesis 2:23-24)  This is the first recorded marriage between man and woman.  It was God who instituted and ordained it.

There are lots of instructions on this subject of marriage given in the Bible  Even today, in the Christian wedding services, some of the scriptures are quoted.  Please read Ephesians 5:22-31 in your own Bible.  If the principles are followed by husband and wife, then marriage is a great blessing.  Verse 32 reads, “This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.”  Verse 33 goes on, “Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.”

There has been much discussion of marriage with the Royal Wedding coming up this week.  But we look forward to an even greater marriage in the future. Let us not take the marriage institution lightly.  It is God-ordained for the benefit of the human race, picturing the marriage of the Lamb with his Bride, His Church.  Revelation 19:7 says, “Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.”

Are you ready?

Loving Father, I thank you for your Word, revealing your purpose for the human race.  Lord Jesus, our Bridegroom, come quickly.
