Believe In Him

“Jesus answered and said to them, ‘This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.’”
John 6:29 (NKJV)

Once a week my husband buys me a newspaper, because he knows I like to do the crossword on that particular day.  If I don’t turn straight to the puzzle page I find myself reading about murders, adultery, thefts, lies and a lack of respect for other people.  God certainly understood the heart of man when He gave Moses the 10 commandments.

In the Gospels of  Matthew, Mark and Luke we find the account of a rich man speaking to Jesus.  He asks what he must do to inherit eternal life and Jesus quotes from the 10 commandments.  The first four commandments are not mentioned at all.  Why?

It has been said that the first four commandments deal with man’s relationship with God and the last six, man’s relationship with other people.  Why then did Jesus not mention our relationship with God?  Could the reason be that, for the rich man, the relationship with God had just become personal.  He was speaking face to face with God in the form of His Son, Jesus, Immanuel, God with us. (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23).

Jesus said we are to “love the Lord our God with all our hearts”….  How?  By believing in His Son!

Dear Father in Heaven, thank you for sending your Son to earth to save us.  We believe in Him.  Help our unbelief.
