One Size Fits All

“I will sing for joy in God
explode in praise from deep in my soul!
He dressed me up in a suit of salvation,
He outfitted me in a robe of righteousness,
As a bridegroom who puts on a tuxedo
and a bride a jewelled tiara.”
Isaiah 61:10 (MSG)

Every Christmas after all the festivities are over, many people trudge back to the stores to get garments changed, mostly because they are the wrong size. Perhaps you have had to do this yourself, I know I have and it can be quite embarrassing. Even choosing a gift for others can be quite daunting, but size is by far the biggest challenge. I guess that’s why many will choose a scarf, a tie, a handbag or perhaps a book, where size doesn’t matter.

But there is one gift that never needs to be changed for a different size and that’s the gift that a loving heavenly Father chose as his perfect and awesome present for mankind; actually it’s a package—the gospel of grace, salvation, righteousness, and eternal life—which are all wrapped up in his beloved Son, Jesus!

Paul, throughout his thirteen epistles continually points to this wonderful gift; but here in his letter to the Ephesians, he breaks out in praise to God; saying; “Let us give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! For in our union with Christ he has blessed us by giving us every spiritual blessing in the heavenly world. Even before the world was made, God had already chosen us to be his through our union with Christ, so that we would be holy and without fault before him. Because of his love God had already decided through Jesus Christ he would make us his children—this was his pleasure and purpose. Let us praise God for his glorious grace, for the free gift he gave us in his dear Son!” (Ephesians 1:3-6 Good News Bible).

If you consider this carefully, I think you’ll conclude that this gift, above all gifts, is the one that can truly be called: “one size that fits all!” Perfectly!

Our generous heavenly Father, thank you so much for the gift that you have tailored to fit all of us; because we all need everything that you have wrapped up for us in your beloved Son Jesus.
