Do You Have ‘Tunnel Vision’?

“The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.”
Psalm 34:15 (KJV)

I was on a crowded train the other day and made a call from my mobile phone. Usually I get annoyed with people who talk noisily into their phones on trains but this time I was one of them. No sooner had I begun to speak than we entered a tunnel. I called again and another tunnel cut me off again. Tunnel after tunnel and I kept losing my connection. The story of my life!

Of course tunnels typically are a quick way to get from point A to point B. They serve a useful purpose, I know, but they’re dark, you miss the view, and you lose the connection. It occurred to me that sometimes our trials can be that way too. We need more light and a greater perspective. In my darkest moments I might feel like I have been disconnected from God, but the truth is that in His line is still open. Contact remains possible. I can still talk to Him even though I don’t. Maybe, if I did, the tunnel would seem to pass more quickly or at least I would cope better, and I would not be so irritable….or so irritating.

Keep the connection open.

Father, even in the darkest tunnel you are there with us.  Despite our ‘tunnel vision’ help us to keep our connection through prayer in Jesus’ name.
