Sea Of Knowledge

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.  To him be glory both now and forever!  Amen.”
2 Peter 3:18 (NIV)

Recently, looking for some information about a product on the internet, there were no less than 159,000 references listed. How astounding that is and how awesome, that if you have internet access you have staggering amounts of information available to you.

We live at an amazing time in history when humanity can know more than ever before about a vast range of subjects. Barely twenty years ago, the internet was just not available in the way it is now.  But as we almost drown in a sea of knowledge, are we getting distracted by the sheer quantity of information available to us?

How much knowledge do we have of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ? Are we growing in that knowledge in the way that we should?  It’s so easy to forget that knowing God and growing in our relationship with him is knowledge that will have an eternal value.

Are we living in a world of constantly expanding knowledge which is losing sight of what knowledge is really important?  The internet, with all its different uses, is a great servant but a poor master.  Perhaps with a little more knowledge of God we may become more effective lights in our human relationships and make our small corner of the world a pleasanter and brighter place.

Gracious Father, give us the wisdom and focus to understand what knowledge is of real value and not to be distracted by the vast amounts of knowledge available to us today.
