Where Is Jesus Today?

“…for he lives with you, and will be in you.”
John 14:17 (NIV)

You can always get there from here.

Before his crucifixion Jesus had explained to the disciples that he was going to die. The disciples did not really get it, and they felt unsettled. The Lord Jesus was one with the Father. He was also one with the Spirit. In fact, one scripture asserts that, “the Lord is the Spirit” (2 Corinthians 3:17). The Father, Son and Spirit are one God.

Jesus’ desire was to comfort his followers because he knew they would be confused and perplexed and would feel abandoned at the time of his death. And so he explained more about the Spirit. Jesus, who is the Way, the Truth and the Life, embodied the Spirit of Truth. He was with them in person while he walked on earth with them. He had previously said to his disciples, “I am with you for only a short time, and then I go to the one who sent me” (John 7:33). But then what? His answer was that he would be in them through the presence of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit would dwell spiritually in the believer.

Paul, one of the great teachers of the early church, said, “Christ lives in me” (Galatians 2:20). Jesus never leaves or forsakes us. The Spirit of God is everywhere in every situation.

Therefore you can always get to Jesus wherever you are. He is not distant in the heavens. He is immediately present. In faith we believe that Jesus is not only with us, but also that he lives in us.

And, because Christ is here now, with us and in us, our life is full of promise and possibility.

Great Father, thank you for the Holy Spirit, and that through him Jesus lives in the believer.  Thank you that through the Spirit your presence is immediate and real.
