Why Bother With The Bible?

“The Son (Jesus) is…the exact representation of his (God’s) being.”
Hebrews 1:3 (NIV)

What’s so important about the Bible?

After all, the scriptures of religions other than Christianity contain many good things. For example, there are sound lessons and principles for daily living, and often home truths about human nature. The Bible also has these but, in addition, there is something very special to be found in it.

What is special about the Bible is that it is unique in telling us who God is. It gives an insight about God that other writings don’t provide.

The Bible says that the revelation of God is Jesus Christ. In other words, if we want to know who God is and what he is like and what his thoughts are, we need look no further than Jesus Christ. “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father”, said Christ (John 14:9). The leading verse above reminds us that Jesus is the exact image of God’s inner self. It is only the Bible that gives us this information.

If the Bible is false, this makes no difference at all. But, if it is true, it changes everything, and we need to listen to what Jesus says through the pages of the Bible.

That’s why we should turn to the Bible.

The Bible tells us who God is.

Wonderful Father, thank you for the Bible, and thank you that it reveals who you are and what you are like. Thank you that you revealed yourself in Jesus Christ.
