Encouragement During Difficult Times

“May our Lord Jesus Christ and our father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.”
2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 (Life Application Bible)

I do not often purchase a newspaper–I merely look at the headlines in a petrol station or shop, some time ago I noticed something that made me pick up the newspaper and purchase it.  It read ‘Cheer up Britain’ then followed with these points –
*Cheaper gas and electricity
*House sales and shares soar
*Car production is picking up
*We might even win the ashes!

From all these points I can only relate to one–we did win the ashes!  The other points may be valid also. I do wonder what effect it would have if only all the newspapers and headlines and news were as positive. Some good news is what the whole world needs. I agree there are some horrible things going on, but the Bible reading above states that God and Jesus give us encouragement to keep on going day after day.

We all need this vital encouragement in challenging times – it must be with us always for our own benefit and to help one another. As God encourages us, we can encourage others by showing interest and joy, being positive and hopeful, in short, by being Christian.  1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NIV) says, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”

Lord, thank you for your word.  We are encouraged by your love, care and happiness for us.  We make mistakes, but we have encouragement that one day everything will be done according to your word throughout this world.
