Change The Way You Think

“Don’t copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.”

Romans 12:2 (NLT UK)

Whatever you choose to feed your mind with affects the way you act, what you say and what you do. We won’t change our behaviour until we change our thoughts. Proverbs 23:7 (NKJV) says, “For as he thinks in his heart so he is.”

We must turn our thoughts to God and His Word and get rid of wrong ideas, thoughts and motives. God knows our thoughts and he knows they are worthless.  (Psalm 94:11).

I Corinthians 14:20 (NIV) tells us to “Stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults.” And Proverbs 15:28 (NLT) ponders that “The heart of the godly thinks carefully before speaking, the mouth of the wicked overflows with evil words.”

What do we mostly think about? Our possessions, our physical needs, what we eat or drink or wear? God says “These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers all over the world, but your Father already knows your needs.” (Luke 12:30 NLT).

So what should we think about? Luke 12:31 (NLT) tells us,  “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else and he will give you everything you need.”

Philippians 4:8 (KJV) says, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there by any praise, think on these things.”

In conclusion, let’s pray with David, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” (Psalm 139:23-24 NLT).
