Yoked to Christ (Part 2)

“Take My yoke on you and learn of Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you shall find rest to your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.”

Matthew 11:29-30 (MKJV)

Being Yoked Is Not So Bad.  As we saw yesterday, there are good reasons for not fearing being yoked with Jesus. Here is an analogy to help remove any final vestiges of fear.

Do you fear travelling in a car with your best friend driving? Being a passenger in a car is like being yoked to the driver. As a passenger we have no control and yet we’re content to travel with them.

We don’t fear being a passenger because we trust our best friend. We trust that they’ll take us the best route, that they’ll get us safely to where we are going ~ and on time.

And who better to be driving our car than our very best Friend? He will surely take us the route which is best for us, knowing which speed bumps and humpback bridges we can handle, what heights will enthrall or scare us, which panoramas will encourage us and lift our spirits. The journey will be exhilarating, wonderful.

Also we can trust Jesus to get us safely to our destination and on time. We are so precious to Him, He would never consider risking our lives, and God’s timing is always perfect.

And while being a passenger, Jesus is teaching us His ways. We can watch His driving skills and learn. From just watching and listening to Jesus, we can learn how to signal, how and when to apply the brakes, how and when it is safe to accelerate, etc. And, sometimes, we get to sit in the driving seat to have a go at what we have been learning ~ but always with Jesus in dual-control.

No, being yoked to Jesus isn’t so bad. It is exciting and wonderful. Enjoy the ride!

Prayer

Dear Father, thank You for the thrilling ride of this life. May we enter into it with Jesus and without fear.

Amen
