Colour Blind

“I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.”
Psalm 139:14 (NKJV)

God created us in His image and likeness to enjoy life. To me the gift of eyes is incredible. During spring and summer time, I watch and gaze at the new crop of flowers that bloom in my small garden—a sight to behold with a variety of them in different colours: red, blue, yellow, pink, white and many other hues.  Even the leaves are shiny green, very soothing to the eyes. Many birds of various bright colours fly over and some drop by to pick up their grubs!

God is the Divine Designer who fashioned all things. This brings to my mind the beautiful hymn we are very fond of singing, including words of: ‘All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small, each little flower that opens, each little bird that sings, He made their glowing colours, He made their tiny wings,  the purple-headed mountain, the river running by, the sunset and the morning that brightens up the sky, He gave us eyes to see them, How great is God Almighty, who made all things well.’

Recently a thought came to my mind: What if I had been born colour blind? Life would be dull and boring, for every thing would be black and white . We had black and white films before the films that we now see in colours. There would be no perception of colour and I would not have the joy of feasting my eyes upon the sea corals, appreciate the fish in their splendour or the many wonders of God, who has splashed His creation with glorious and radiant colours all around us in the heavens above and on the earth below and the seas and oceans covering the earth.

These thoughts bring forth praise in my heart to glorify God who wonderfully designed our eyes to be able to distinguish all the kaleidoscopic colors which are incredible to contemplate. I thank God that I am not colour blind. His glorious creation invokes me to make joyful noise and praise Him with all my heart. What a great God we have, who has designed and created all the things for our pleasure and enjoyment. I say with the Apostle Paul “Oh, The depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!” (Romans 11:33). I join with the myriads upon myriads of holy angels and the four living creatures and 24 elders in worship, who bow down before God’s throne saying, “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come…You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power; for You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created” (Revelation 4:8, 11). Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

All wise, all understanding, all powerful, Majestic, Most High, Almighty God our Father, you are worthy of honour and glory, reverence and awe forever and ever. Thank You for giving us life that can be abundant and overflowing with such precious gifts that You shower upon us daily. In Jesus’ name I pray and bow down before Your throne of grace.
