Our Perfect Gift

And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.

Matthew 1:21 (NKJV)

With Christmas just around the corner, we see people rushing around the shops, making last minute gift selections for their loved ones.  Tired and stressed out at the end of a busy days’ shopping, we mull over whether or not we have made the right choices.  Will Mum like her perfume?  Will little Johnny like his train set?  Will Dad like the Christmas jumper that Grandma has lovingly knitted for him?  Then there’s the food.  Is the turkey big enough?  Have we bought enough of this and that?

All these things are of course important to ensure the smooth running of the Christmas festivities – BUT let us remember the real reason for celebrating this time of year.  The birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Over 2,000 years ago our loving Father in Heaven, sent to us on Earth a baby boy born of the Virgin Mary, whose name was called Jesus.  “For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.”  (Luke 2:11).  He was and is the greatest gift of all.  He who came to redeem us is the ‘Perfect’ gift.  The gift of ‘Jesus’ is without stress or worry.  He is a gift of Peace, Mercy, Compassion and endless Love.  Jesus is God’s gift for all Mankind, all we need to do is to turn to him and say ‘Thank you’.

Loving Father in Heaven, thank you for the gift of your Son, Jesus Christ.  I give thanks to you that I can rest safely in his arms forevermore.
