Wanted—Dead Or Alive

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16 (NIV)

Iconic Western movies evoke the Wild West, with cattle drives, saguaro cactus in the desert, saloon shoot-ups and the Sheriff pasting up a Wanted poster:  Wanted—Dead or Alive; with a reward of $1000.

Did you know that you are a wanted criminal?!  Romans 3:23 says all have sinned and further on in Romans 6:23 it goes on to say the wages of sin is death.

But dead or alive, God wants everyone, not to be jailed and hanged, but to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4). In fact, as it says in the header scripture, he has paid our death sentence with the life of his own Son, and the reward for us is priceless—that is, eternal life!

Father God, thank you that it is not just a dream or a Western Movie that we live in, but the reality that, dead or alive, we are wanted in your kingdom. Your Son, Jesus, paid the ransom so that rather than the death that we deserve, we can have life with you forever. We thank you in Jesus’ name.
