Ants, Ants, Ants

“Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise, which having no captain, overseer or ruler, provides her supplies in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest.”
Proverbs 6:6-8 (NKJV)

Ants are everywhere. There are various species of them. I have seen big black ants with powerful jaws, little tiny pinkish ones, very minute gingery ones, and also seen ants which have wings that can fly. They are God’s creation and we can learn vital lessons from observing them. I am not an ‘Antologist’ but recently followed the instruction of God to watch their activities. Sitting on a bench, I observed their intent as they were marching in regiment to accomplish the job at hand. I was amazed as I watched one particular one, moving so fast it took my breath away because at a blink of an eye, it disappeared at a distance.

A scent of a crumb of food on the floor would draw them quickly together and each would carry what it could. At times the weight would be heavy and then it would struggle and rest a bit before going on. So diligent, so hard working, having no captain, no overseer, nor a ruler over them, they carry out their duty as they are designed to perform.

The lesson I learnt from them is to be diligent, focus on a job at hand, be persistent and never quit. Also to be wise, reminding myself that they do it without a boss or overseer over them to order what to do. So if you can find time to observe these tiny creatures, follow the advice of God and learn important lessons that they are meant to teach us.

Fortunately, we do have a Captain of salvation, Jesus Christ, who through suffering became the author or captain of eternal salvation to all who obey Him (Hebrews 2:10 & 5:8-9). The Apostle Peter refers to Him as the ‘Overseer of your souls’ in 1 Peter 2:25, and verse 21 says that he set us an example to follow.  We thank God for looking after us through His Son, Jesus Christ who is our perfect example for living a godly life in the Spirit. We must not forget to consider the ANT and the lessons it brings to mind.

Our loving Father, I thank You for giving us the example of ants to be diligent and industrious, following in the steps of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus, in whose name I pray.
