DGO  SI  OVLE

“To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of God, but to the rest it is given in parables, that, seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.’”
Luke 8.10 (NKJV)

Does this seem a strange thing for Jesus to say? It seems that He did not want every-one to understand what He was saying. Did Jesus want to confuse people? Well, contrary to popular belief it appears that, at that time, He did. His mission at that time was to reveal the Father, call and prepare a small group of disciples, who would then spread Christianity throughout the known world, and die on the cross to deliver us from the penalty of death for our sins.

In keeping with that does our headline confuse you? Unless you recognise the Italian word, “Si.” It is actually a simple statement that goes to the heart of the Christian message, in English! Re-arrange the letters and you will read, God is Love. This shows how easily we can be confused today, even with a statement we know by heart. Though no doubt some readers will have seen it immediately.

But the link between then, when Christ was on earth, and now is interesting because it almost seems that the same applies today. So many people seem to live lives of blissful ignorance of God. Sometimes if a situation arises when we have a chance to say I’m a Christian, or share the fact that God is love, it seems that we are speaking a foreign language! Which can be very frustrating when we want to share what we consider the most exciting message in the world today. Sometimes we can feel like saying God is the answer, now what is the question? But we need to remember some other words of Jesus as well, in John 6.44. Our job is to reflect the light of Christ, but the Father will decide who comes to that light.

So we must not be confused or discouraged if people are not responding to us today. They will, when God the Father calls them. Remember Acts 2.41 where 3000 souls were added to the church in one day, and ask, could our church cope with 3000 new people in a day!

Prayer
Father, humanly we can feel frustrated that we are in a small local church, when we long to share your love for humanity with others. Help us to do our part but have complete trust in you whatever the result may be. Help us to be ready if and when it is your will to call people into our church. In Jesus name we pray.
Amen
