A Divine Calling

“God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”
1 Corinthians 1:9 (ESV)

Believers in Jesus, Christians, have received a divine calling which cannot be revoked or rescinded because it is irrevocable, as it says in Romans 11:29. God is faithful and will not change his mind about calling us into the fellowship or the communion of his beloved Son. The fellowship of Jesus Christ is the holy, loving relationship that God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit have experienced from eternity and will continue forever! We, mere mortal beings, have been blessed, privileged and honoured to be called into this wonderful relationship. It does not get any better for us, participating in the life of our triune God!

As the children of God (1 John 3:1-2), we have been given a divine calling. “Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, who was faithful to him who appointed him, just as Moses also was faithful in all God’s house” (Hebrews 3:1-2).

In life, some people are called to be doctors, some to be teachers, some to be undertakers and many other professions. Believers are spiritually called to participate in the fellowship of God. This means our inclusion in the holy loving relationship of God. An amazing privilege and opportunity -Wow! This calling is special, we cannot afford to treat it lightly or take it for granted, but make it the number one priority in our lives. “That which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ (1 John 3:3).

We pray with the Apostle Paul that the grace of the Lord Jesus and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all (2 Corinthians 13:14).
