Peace That Passes All Understanding

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV)

Hearing the Coronavirus news every day is very depressing—we are living in an unprecedented time of uncertainty. The whole world is facing fear and panic as a result of pandemic. We have qualified doctors and nurses who, even though they are doing a great job, are overwhelmed because of the rapid spread of the virus. Many nations have declared complete lockdown. The world economy is reeling as shops and business close, airlines are losing their income, sporting events are cancelled, stock-markets are volatile. God can deliver us and give peace despite what the world is facing and going through now.

The whole of Psalm 91 is full of comfort for those who believe, and especially verses 5 and 6 where we find, “You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.”

The world is working hard to find a remedy for the Coronavirus. There is lot of suffering and affliction in this present world and Christians are not exempted from it. But we have the hope of future glory. We find in Romans 8:18, “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” In 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 Paul writes, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” That is the future reality for those who are eagerly awaiting this hope. We walk by faith, and not by sight, trusting God, that we may have peace of mind.

Loving Father, please give wisdom to the world leaders to make wise decisions to give stability in the world. Thank You for the hope we have of peace through our Lord Jesus. He is the Saviour of all mankind, the Prince of peace who has the power to banish this Coronavirus pandemic. In Jesus’ name I pray.
