When the Children Cry

“And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
Revelation 21:4 (NKJV)

I was in my local convenience store the other day purchasing some milk. Because of the coronavirus lockdown there were only a couple of people in there. As I was paying for my milk I asked the lady behind the counter if they were managing to keep the store running properly during the crisis. She said they were coping because the store also acted as a local post office and a petrol station. But then she began to tell me how much the coronavirus epidemic was affecting her personally and she told me how she was crying almost on a daily basis because she couldn’t see an end to the coronavirus problem.

She also told me of a song that really had made an impression on her when she was 17. The song was called ‘When the Children Cry’ and some of the lyrics are ‘When the children cry let them know we tried; ‘Cause when the children sing then the new world begins’. It was by a group called White Lion and it was a hit for them in 1987. I must admit I had not heard of the group myself so went online as soon as I got home. The song is quite haunting and also contains the following lyrics:
Cause you were born for all the world to see
That we all can live with love and peace
No more presidents and all the wars will end
One united world under God’

These lyrics really showed me how much humans are totally incapable of ruling over other humans—the only solution being one united world under God. It brings to mind the header scripture looking to a future when there will be no more crying. In the meantime, we can take comfort in the words of King David in Psalm 34:15, “The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their cry.”

I must admit when I entered that convenience store to purchase some milk I did not realize I was going to have such a personal encounter. I have been into the store subsequently and if this lady serves me I always say to her “Don’t let the Children Cry.”

Father, we know this coronavirus is a deadly disease and we know it is killing many people worldwide. We may not understand how or why these things happen but we do know we can put our trust in You. We know, Father, there is a better world to come when all man’s efforts will be subdued and our world will be one united world under God.
