A Time For Everything
(Who’s Zooming Who?)

“To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under the heaven:…a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;”
Ecclesiastes 3:1, 5b (NKJV)

Technically, I’ve lived in my house for the last 20 years but I never actually get to enjoy it. Like most people, I work long hours, up at the crack of dawn, back late in the evening – in winter I don’t even need to open my drapes as it’s dark when I leave for work and dark when I return! I work Mondays to Fridays, Saturdays are dedicated to Church and Sundays to catching up with household chores.

And then we have lockdown when we are told to stay at home, in our houses 24/7. From those of us blessed to be in good health, I hear signs of unrest. Posts are appearing on social media such as this one: ”You’re not stuck at home, You’re staying safe at home.” And I’d like to add, “We’re resting, resetting, reassessing, rejuvenating and reconnecting at home.

I wrote a DaybyDay a while ago on life being a question of mind over matter, and again, we are talking about a mindset here. This is an opportunity. Yes, for those of us who now have to home-work and home-school it might well seem a bit daunting, but it is still an opportunity to do things differently.

For those of us who are also quarantined, we can use this quiet time to connect with our heavenly Father. Some churches are only now discovering the delights of the internet world that business has known for some time (yet not fully explored). From live-stream sermons and Bible studies to interactive sessions.

Here’s my prediction: when we get to the other side of this – and we will, life will have fundamentally shifted. Businesses which survive will have used technology to reshape how they approach meetings; reassess how things are done. Will we have? Will we emerge with a deeper relationship with God, and our family. Will we have used this time to talk, connect and explore? Or just to Netflix and chill?

This may not be a time to embrace each other physically, but it is a time to embrace each other spiritually.

Heavenly Father, we come before You, thankful always for Your love. We thank You for the opportunity You give us to share that love with others. Now is the time to embrace each other spiritually and to reach out to our neighbour and show Your love in practical ways. Help us to rise to the occasion. In Jesus’ name we pray.
