The Self Isolated Chocolate Bunny
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
Matthew 7:7 (NIV)
Even though I am the only person in my street who is self-isolating on her own – all my neighbours have family members with them, I appreciate and understand that across the world there are millions like me. So, what is to be done to lessen the melancholy? The first thing I did was to move a garden chair and small table from the secluded back garden to the front garden which is open. I sit there from time to time with my book and cup of tea and strangers call out to me as they pass. I feel loved – I am loved. I am loved by an elder brother who will do anything for me if I just ask (Matthew 7:7). Not only that He is with me always – He never leaves me – so I am not on my own.
My neighbour’s daughter at my request has painted a picture of a rainbow for me – it has pride of place in my window. The rainbow – a sign of God’s promises to us. Genesis 9:16 says “Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”
I am reminded of His love for me this very morning – I went out to my bin to dispose of rubbish and there on my little table in the front garden was a chocolate bunny. I don’t know who put it there, but I do know it was the love of Christ that mooted it. I may not eat the bunny for a while – to me it is a symbol of His wonderful love and I am thankful for it.
Prayer
Wonderful loving Father, thank you that no matter what the crisis is in our lives you are with us. Thank you that your Word is solid – we need never doubt you. Thank you so much for your infinite love.
Amen
