A Silent Witness

“The heavens declare the glory of God: the skies proclaim the work of His hands.”
Psalm 19:1 (NIV)

As I write this, I, like so many, am self-isolating. This can be a difficult time as we are by nature, sociable beings, needing to relate and interact with one another. We stimulate and encourage each other. But this quiet time of peace and rest from the pressures of life, gives us time to consider and reflect upon the positives which are often overlooked.

May I encourage us all to look closely at our surroundings, appreciate the sounds, scents and colours all around us. Observe how the wind stirs in the grass and whispers in the trees. Where does it come from and where does it go? We don’t know but we know it exists – our senses become acute to the creation. Psalm 19:2-4 declares “Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.”

The Welsh poet W H Davies wrote in his poem ‘Leisure,’ “What is this life, if full of care, we have not time to stand and stare.”

A question for us all.

Dear God, we thank you for all you have created out of your love. Thank you for your Son, Jesus, our hope of things to come.
