Word of Power

“God has spoken once, twice I have heard this: that Power belongs to God.”
Psalm 62:11 (NKJV)

Hebrews 4:12 says “For the Word of God is living and powerful, and is sharper than a two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” This scripture alone should grasp our attention to shake us up from lethargy. We have to be stirred up, for the Word of God is like fire and like a hammer that breaks the rocks into pieces (Jeremiah 23:29). Jesus said in John 6:63 “The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” And in verse 68 Peter responded with “To Whom shall we go? For You have the Words of eternal life.” What can be more powerful than that?

Jesus Christ was the Word of God from the beginning and the Word was God and the Word was with God, through whom all things were made (John 1:1-3, 14). Look at the vast universe stretched out even beyond imagination. Yet it is upheld by Him as recorded in Hebrews 1:3, “who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the Word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.” Can anyone imagine the power needed to uphold and sustain this universe?

This power is at our disposal through Christ in us. As part of the armour of God listed in Ephesians 6:10-19 it protects us from the power of evil. The Word of God has power to convict the hearer of sin as demonstrated by Peter’s sermon in Act 2:37. It produces faith in those who hear it and study the Bible, the Word of God (Romans 10:17), and it builds up (Acts 20:32), making one wise and equipping for every good work (2 Timothy 3:14-17). It gives the assurance of eternal life to those who believe (1 John 5:13) and has power to bring peace in our heart, joy and rejoicing (Jeremiah 15:16). That is the mighty, awesome Power in the Word of God.

Power belongs to God and His Word of Power sanctifies His people (John 17:17). This power of Truth is at our disposal. I know where it is found. It is there in the Holy Bible. God’s grace, peace and mercy be with all who read the Word.

Abba, Father, I thank You for Your Word of Power and praise You in Jesus’ Holy name.
