Word Search

“Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near”
Isaiah 55:6 (NIV)

My elderly mother was an avid enthusiast of word games, she used the game Word Search right up till her death. She would spend hours focussed on the jumble of letters – oblivious to the world around her. She maintained it helped her to ‘keep her marbles’ and would often recruit her grandchildren when in pursuit of a particular word.

I wonder what she would think of me using the game as an allegory of my Saviour. In John 1:1 Jesus Christ is identified as the ‘Word,’ and the Word is God: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” In verse 14 of John 1 is further verification. “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

The admonition in Isaiah 55:6 is to seek the Lord – the Word – while He may be found. This is a spiritual Word search that has huge spiritual implications. Through the highs and lows of life we need to stay focussed on the Word – seeking Him and His ways – always.

If we stay close to the Lord, we will keep our spiritual marbles – forever!

Loving God, thank you for your constancy toward us – may we seek you continuously throughout our lives.
