Dragonflies

“And out of the smoke locusts came down on the earth and were given power like that of scorpions of the earth.”
Revelation 9:3 (NIV)

Have you ever watched a TV programme about people from the past being sent to the future? They are bewildered and confused by modern technology and when they return to their time find it difficult to describe such things as television, radio, mobile phones, printers, etc.

I was walking my dog as usual in the wooded area behind the house. He was getting on with the things that dogs do, sniffing, and weeing on everything. About half way through the walk we came upon a friend and his 3 dogs.

My friend had a cheery complexion and we started chatting. He sometimes brings along a camera and takes photos of flowers and insects. We were talking about various things and he mentioned the Dragonfly. He said that it has eight wings and looks like a Sikorsky helicopter! At once my mind went to Revelation where there is talk of locusts coming down upon the earth. Revelation is generally thought to be prophetic and given the language used by revelation this is a good disguise for battle helicopters coming down out of the sky to do their business on the people of the earth.

People speculate about the meaning of these events described in Revelation, and they can be a warning of the evils of greed and hatred but we do not need to fear. God says he will never leave nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). And in Acts 1 when the disciples asked Jesus what was going to happen in the future, he told them “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.” He went on to tell them to live Christian lives as witnesses of Him (Acts 2:6-8).

Prayer
Holy Father, we may not understand what is going to happen in the future but we can be living Christian lives while we wait for our Saviour’s return. In Jesus’ name we pray.
Amen
