A New Kingdom!

“For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son,”
Colossians 1:13 (NLT)

Jesus invited his disciples to enter a new world, to allow a new reality to transform their inner lives, to throw away the old outdated mental map and the old prescription spectacles. To begin again as children and to embark on a new journey, a journey on which they would throw back their shoulders and think about themselves in a new way—as true heirs of a new kingdom and the invited guests at the banquet of honour when Christ returns. By living in a new world, and allowing themselves to be salt and light to flavour and illuminate the darkness of the world in which they found themselves living.

This is also true of all who have come to Jesus today, or will come in the future. We are, as Peter declared, “temporary residents and foreigners” here on earth (1 Peter 2:11); but you know, just like reading a book, we can’t start the next chapter if we keep on re-reading the last chapter! We need to move on, we need to listen to our great High Priest Jesus and be prepared to change our thoughts to this new way, this new journey that he has mapped out for us. In short, he wants us to realise that he is making all things new. Notice as the writer to the Hebrews discusses our High Priest Jesus he tells us that “But now Jesus, our High Priest, has been given a ministry that is far superior to the old priesthood, for he is the one who mediates for us a far better covenant with God, based on better promises. If the first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no need for a second covenant to replace it” (Hebrews 8:6-7). These better promises are spiritual, not physical. This is a totally new ball game based on Grace not Works!

Come join us on this new journey, leaving behind all the things of the past that hinder us and stifle our joy of this new and special Way—Jesus! Who tells us that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life! (John 14: 6).

Prayer
Father, thank you for your amazing plan of salvation in Jesus Christ your Son and for your Spirit who leads us along that way into your New Kingdom.
Amen
